MCB Quantico FD Selects FDonScene Software

(CHANDLER, AZ – November 26, 2001) - FieldSoft, Inc., announced today that the Marine Corps Base Quantico Fire/Rescue Department selected FDonScene software and end user training. The software was purchased along with other specialized equipment and training, to enhance the department’s first response capability to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Comments made during the end user training indicate however, that the software may be used for more than WMD responses.

FDonScene automates typical incident command and firefighter accountability tasks and responsibilities, so that first response command staff can better focus on strategy, tactics, and hazards. In addition, the tactical browser integrated into FDonScene ensures that supporting alphanumeric and graphical information (such as floor plans, maps, operational procedures, and the like) are immediately available when needed and where needed. The end result is a more effective operation resulting in a safer work environment for first responders, reduced losses, and more timely post incident recovery.

End user training for Quantico Fire/Rescue staff was conducted November 16, 2001, by FieldSoft co-founder Mark Bouchard.

“The Fire Chief oversaw the training of one Assistant Chief and Four Fire Captains” stated Bouchard. He went on to say that “I believe that the real value of the training is not that it introduces end users to software features. Rather, I believe that the true benefit is that the training reduces end user anxiety over real time use of a software product during an incident. New users may read about or hear that the software is the fastest, simplest, and easiest alternative to tactical work sheets or marker boards. Most don’t believe it however, until they see for themselves that the software really is simple to learn and easy to use. One Quantico trainee for example, approached me during the day and remarked how the software took a “common sense” approach to incident command. Another mentioned that the training helped to illustrate the benefits of the software for structural and wild land incidents, and not just WMD responses.”

Quantico Fire/Rescue is FieldSoft’s first U. S. Marine Corps customer of a product which was found to be “a powerful tool to manage and log [incident] events as they happen” by the U.S. Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center. Other military customers include the Luke Air Force Base and Eglin Air Force Base Fire Departments, as well as the Fort McPherson Army Base and Fort Gillem Army Base Fire Department”.
